Galician Chilean (Spanish: "Chileno Gallego") is a Chilean citizen with ancestry from Galicians or a Galician settler in Chile. Origins of Galicians may be from Spain and/or Portugal. Galicians emigrated from Spain to Chile in thousands as refugees to escape Spanish Civil War in 1939 and from Portugal to set themselves free from Antonio Oliveira Salazar's rule. Many have intermarried with mestizo population and even pure-blooded Spanish Chilean population of other ethnic origins. Some demographers estimated the Galician population in Chile at 100,000 but may be inaccurate.
