True Cinema movement

True Cinema movement

True Cinema movement is a film movement founded by Rajan Sarma, a Tamil Film director of the 1980s. The movement mainly focus on initiating necessary steps on bringing out or developing 'Expressive Cinema' in contrast to the so called 'Dramatic Cinema' prevalent commonly in India.

The main principles of the 'True Cinema' Movement are,

* Cinema is not only a Meduim of Entertainment; but also a ' "Medium of Expression" '.
* Cinema should not be called as a Visual Medium; but instead as a ' "Audio-visual Medium" '.
* The Cinema should not be restricted to as a mere Story-telling medium. It should be used as a 'Language'.
* Cinema should depend only on its own 'audio and visuals'. The music (songs and BGMs) should necessarily be avoided as it reduces the trueness of Cinema.

Also as in the words of Rajan Sarma, "True Cinema becomes complete, only when its visuals and sounds are combined evenly, equally and effectively." In other words, "True Cinema is one, which is understood only on collective access to its visual and audio." The other important initiative of the True Cinema Movement is the ' "Expressive Cinema" '.
