refnum=71000882Shepherd's Mill is a
gristmill inShepherdstown, West Virginia , located on Town Run just as it descends to thePotomac River . The mill was built some time prior to 1739 by Thomas Shepherd, Sr. as a two-story structure. The original millwheel was probably a woodovershot wheel . The present 40-foot diameterwrought iron wheel dates to around 1910, and with the addition of a third story in the late 19th century, the mill is more representative of that era. citation|title=PDFlink| [http://www.wvculture.org/shpo/nr/pdf/jefferson/71000882.pdf National Register of Historic Places Nomination: Shepherd's Mill] |986 KB|date=September 21, 1970 |author=Clifford M.
