Upper Poppleton is a village in the unitary authority of the City of York in the north of England. It is situated by the River Ouse south of Nether Poppleton, and west of York. The village is served by Poppleton railway station on the Harrogate line.

According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,961. Prior to 1996 it had been part of the Harrogate district.

The name is derived from "popel" (pebble) and "tun" (hamlet, farm), and probably means "farmstead on pebbly soil". Upper Poppleton used to be referred to as "Land Poppleton" whilst Nether Poppleton was called "Water Poppleton".

The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book and belonged to the Archbishops of York. It became a Conservation Area in 1993. Their football team Poppleton United play in the York Football League Division One.
