[White Balloon Day] http://www.whiteballoonday.com.au/ is the signature event for [Bravehearts] http://www.bravehearts.org.au/ and the most popular event in National Child Protection Week in Australia.
White Balloon Day’s message is to ‘Break the Silence on Child Sexual Assault’ and history has proven it to be a very powerful message across the country. In 1999, Queensland Police labelled White Balloon Day as a ‘phenomenon’ after a 514% increase in disclosures of child sexual assault within the White Balloon Day campaign period.
It is Bravehearts hope that on White Balloon Day millions of Australians will carry Bravehearts White Balloons to send a message of support for victims and to encourage others to break the silence on child sexual assault.
Most importantly White Balloon Day is about harnessing the power of community awareness, helping Australians to educate their kids so that prevention against sexual assault is possible.
One in five children will be sexually assaulted before the age of 18 – equating to 50,000 Australian children every year. Most will never tell anyone. We need your help to provide these children with support and empowerment to do just as we are asking them to do, break the silence.
