The Corsham School, a Visual Arts College, is a large secondary school in Corsham, Wiltshire. It currently has over 1300 students enrolled and over 200 in the growing sixth form facility.

Background

Students from the marketing town of Corsham and those of nearby villages attend. The school's website is more sophisticated than those of nearing schools around Wiltshire, a sign that Corsham takes the visual element of art very seriously. The site now boasts complex graphics and easy-to-access information, including an interactive school timetable and links to the school's Blogger account.

Academic Standards

The Corsham School was described as "exceptional" in increasing the number of pupils attaining top level GCSE grades by Bob Wolfson, Wiltshire's education director, in January 2004. More than two-thirds of Corsham's pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades at GCSE in 2003, a big improvement from just over half the students in 2002. School Standards Minister David Miliband announced that he was keen to see the strategy spread to most schools in the country. Controversy

The school was involved in a controversy, in November 2005, when a pupil was removed from a Religious Education class for scribbling "God Save The Queen" on a book, because it might offend Muslims.
