The Tauranga Eastern Motorway is proposed Motorway in the Bay of Plenty region in New Zealand. It will replace a section of State Highway 2. It will cover almost 23 km from Te Maunga junction to Paengaroa, and will improve access from the east (Te Puke, Whakatane, Opotiki, Gisborne) and south from Rotorua and Taupo - is the main route for trucks heading to the Port of Tauranga from Rotorua and the eastern Bay of Plenty, and connects the economically important central plateau forestry industry with the port for export.

The current route has 17,000 vehicles per day and has a high crash rate. It is expected the population will increase to 45,000 in Papamoa by 2050.

The final design of the project is epected to be complete in 2008/09. Construction is expected within ten years. Funding of construction may include tolling of the motorway. This option was used to the construction of the current Tauranga Harbour Bridge

Route

The Tauranga Eastern Motorway will start at Te Mauna along the existing state highway 2 route heading east. At Domain Road the motorway will be a greenfeild development continuing east. At Bell Road the motorway changes to a southeast direction before rejoining the current state highway 2 at Paengaroa.
