The Spanish Journal

The Spanish Journal

"The Spanish Journal" (TSJ, known as "La Jornada Latina" in Spanish) is a weekly newspaper that serves the Hispanic community of Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, as well as some local schools that use its content as teaching material. For the most part, the publication is written in Spanish, although some sections are written in English for ESL students. It is operated by the Spanish Journal Network, and advertises itself as "Southwest Ohio's No. 1 Spanish-language newspaper & radio since 1999."

The Spanish Journal Network also owns a paper of the same name in Detroit, Michigan, as well as "La Jornada Atlanta Empleos", a free publication distributed in Atlanta, Georgia.

Other media

In September 2001, the Spanish Journal Network briefly experimented with a weekly radio talk show on Christian radio station WTSJ 1050 AM (now WCVX), called "Noticiero Latino–Radio en Español", but the show was cancelled on December 26, 2005, for financial reasons.

After launching an information-by-telephone service (iNFO-TELEFONO) and converting the newspaper from a monthly publication to a weekly one, the Spanish Journal Network resumed broadcasts of "Radio en Español" in Spring 2005 on WDBZ 1230 AM, airing each Sunday with six hours of programming." The Spanish Journal Network's publications and broadcasts, along with WKRC-TV's "Nuestro Rincón" news program, [http://www.wkrc.com/nuestro_rincon/ Local 12 Nuestro Rincón] ] are attempts at providing much-needed Spanish-language information to the Hispanic community, as the mainstream media do not yet provide Spanish-language coverage to breaking news events, for example.
