Personal life
The eldest daughter of Vilmos Gábor (1884–1962), a soldier, and Jolie Gábor (died 1997), she had claimed 1918 as her year of birth, although her younger sister, Zsa Zsa (the middle daughter) was born in 1917, and the youngest of the three, Eva, was born in 1919, making 1918 impossible for Magda's year of birth. Magda was married six times, but had no children.[2]

Magda Gabor was said to have been like her father Vilmos, red-haired, fierce-tempered, intellectual and interested in literature. In 1937, Magda married a Pole, Count Jan Bychowski, who joined the RAF during the war. She traveled to the United States, joining her younger sisters, who had arrived in the United States ahead of her; Eva arrived first in 1939.
