Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH), is the only pediatric medical center in Arkansas and the sixth largest in the United States, serving children from birth to age twenty-one. ACH contracts with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for physician services and serves as a teaching hospital for UAMS Pediatric Medical Students. In the 1980s, the woman who would soon become First Lady of the United States, United States Senator from New York, and a potential Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2008 presidential election, Hillary Rodham Clinton, became the hospital's Honorary Chair, helping transform it into one of the nation's largest children's hospitals.

In 2007 ACH treated the case of 20 month old Jacob Esses, which spurred the recall of the Aqua Dots toy. After swallowing a number of the toy beads, 1,4-butanediol coating the beads was metabolized to Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid (GHB, a recreational anesthetic).
