Julie Anthony (Australian singer)

:"For the American tennis player of the 1970s, see Julie Anthony (tennis player)."Julie Moncrief Lush OBE AM (born 24 August 1949 in Lameroo, South Australia), better known as Julie Anthony, is an Australian entertainer who is perhaps best known as the singer of the Australian National Anthem "Advance Australia Fair". She sang the Australian National Anthem at the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics with Human Nature. It is still considered one of the best renditions of a National Anthem at an Olympic event.

She has also sung with The Seekers, first taking the place of Judith Durham as the lead vocalist in the song "The Carnival Is Over" for the Closing Ceremony of Expo '88. Later, Anthony became a member of the group with Bruce Woodley, Athol Guy and Keith Potger.

Anthony starred in both the Australian and West End productions of "Irene" in the mid-1970s.

At midnight on the night of 1 January 1988, in celebration of the start of Australia's Bicentennial year, Anthony sang the Australian National Anthem "Advance Australia Fair" on the national broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, which continued to show the recording of her performance at the close of broadcasting for many years afterwards, until the broadcaster introduced 24 hour broadcasting.

Anthony is amongst the most awarded of Australian entertainers. She was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) (1980) [cite web|title=Julie Anthony OBE|url=http://www.itsanhonour.gov.au/honours/honour_roll/search.cfm?aus_award_id=1109372&search_type=simple&showInd=true|publisher=Australian Honours Database|accessdate=2007-05-21] and a Member of the Order of Australia (A.M.)
