Radio Teemaneng is a community
radio station based Kimberley in theSol Plaatje municipal Area in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. This is an initiative of Training, Education, Research and Resource Centre. In 1993, TERRP organised a media conference in Kimberley sponsored by Kagiso Trust. The purpose of the conference was to establish a communication medium/tool for the people of the then Cape Province. At that time, radio , television and the print media were under the control of the apartheid government. The conference was there to give an alternative voice to the oppressed majority.Present at the conference were different organisations such as Bop TV,Political organisations, South African Council of Churches including NGOsThe conference started on the 30th October 1993. Three commissions were set up during the conference viz, Commission-Radio Commission - Print Commission - TelevisionAfter deliberations,the conference agreed on establishing a radio station for the Cape Province. At that time, the Cape Province included Mafikeng, Vryburg(Huhudi), the rest of what is now in the west of North West province (Bophirima District), Kimberley and the rest of Sol Plaatje Municipal Area.TERRP was given the mandate to co-ordinate the process and make sure that the station becomes a reality. Members of the Board of Trustees of TERRP were:Mr Pakes DikgetsiMr Darkie AfricaMr Manne DipicoMs Dipuo Peters and other people involved in the governing of the Trust included:-Tebogo Pelele, Mercia Apples, Pele Buffel, Mase Letimela, Kila ModiseTebogo Pelele, who was working as the resource officer, made available the centre's resources for Radio Teemaneng Initiative.Many people registered ro be part of the project but only a few were available throughout. Lebogang Mokoto and Modise Lobelo made sure that the idea became a reality.
