website_name = http://www.smestow.org.uk/Smestow School also known as Smestow Sports College is a co-educational state school located in the city of
Wolverhampton . It was founded in 1964 under the authority of Staffordshire County Council. At first it was known as Tettenhall Number 2, the number 1 school became Regis now Kings school. The school badge has its origins in the Tettenhall coat of arms. The three circles in the arms in Heraldry are called watersheds, and represent rivers. One of which is the river Smestow. The four circles in the badge represent the four houses which existed at that time. These had taken their names from the new Universities of Lancaster, Sussex, Warwick and York. The badge is also tree like in form and represents the Windmill and Battleaxes. The school is a specialist sports college, and was presented with ARTSMARK (alongside it's previously awarded SPORTSARK) in 2004 for it's outstanding success in Drama & the Arts.In January 2005 a new Sixth Form Study Centre and library opened to promote and support students studying at Smestow. The school is receiving £14m from Building Schools for the Future and plan to build a sports hall within the next 3-4 years. Smestow School has a wide variety of sporting facilities on site including a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a PE hall, four separate changing rooms, a fitness suite/gym, a small dance/aerobis area (also used for drama) a set of tennis courts and two large playing fields as well as the new sports hall.
