Floreffe is a brand of
Belgium Abbey beer .History
The
Abbey of Floreffe was founded in1121 . In approximately1250 , a Mill-brewery was built within the Abbey. Upon the arrival of theFrench Revolution in1794 , the Abbey was abandoned by themonks and put up for sale. It was then repurchased by monks, but the brewery was not revived at that time.After the death of the remaining monks in
1850 , the Abbey was preserved and turned into a seminar and then a school called theCollege of the Abbey of Floreffe .In 1960, the
headmaster of the school restored the brewery and began production of beer in order to earn revenue to fund the upkeep and maintenance of the buildings. Upon this revival, the brewery was run by commercial breweryHet Anker brewery inMalines . In1983 , theLefebvre Brewery took over production. * Le Meilleure (the best) is a brown beer (8.5% ABV).
* Triple is alager beer (8.5% ABV).
* Double is an amber beer (6.5% ABV).
* Blanche is awhite beer (4.5% ABV).
* Temps de Cerises (3.5% ABV).
