- Blackboys Cricket Club
Blackboys Cricket Club is an English cricket club based in the village of Blackboys,
East Sussex ,England .History
The club has its roots in local
cricket played inFramfield parish. To date, the earliest known written record of Blackboys cricket is from the Saturday, 24 July 1858 edition of the Sussex Express newspaper, which reported on a match betweenHadlow Down and Blackboys. The date of the match is believed to be the 15 July 1858 and was probably a game organised by the two respective villages.Fact|date=July 2008 This would seem to indicate that an actual club was formed at a later date.Fact|date=July 2008 As reported on 31 July 1858, the return match was played at the Birchit, Blackboys, on 22 July 1858.The earliest records of a formally organized club can be found in one of the club's minutes books, which records the election of officers and financial accounts for 1913. It is believed that the club was organized earlier than that, however, probably being founded during the
19th Century .Fact|date=July 2008Leagues & Cups
The club was a founding member (along with East Hoathly, Framfield, Hadlow Down, Horeham Road, Vines Cross & Waldron) and played in the short-lived Waldron & District Cricket League from 1921 to 1922. This competition was instigated by E.F. Oakshott of Foxhunt Manor, Waldron. The league's championship trophy was originally called the Foxhunt Challenge Cup, but it was put in abeyance in 1923 chiefly because of lack of interest.Fact|date=July 2008 The Cup was reincarnated in 1947 as the Oakshott Cup, and the Blackboys club was again a founding member. As of 2008, the Oakshott Cup was still being competed for. From 1998 to 2006 the club played in the Cuckmere Valley Cricket League, which was formed in 1906.The club has been a member of the [http://www.escl.org.uk/ East Sussex Cricket League] since 2007.
