- Union Christian Church (Tuskegee, Alabama)
Union Christian Church, a Disciples of Christ congregation, was formed in the spring of 1897 by
Evangelist John Allen Branch. Originally, the congregation met under a brush arbor located in ruralMacon County, Alabama , near theTuskegee National Forest . The original church was built on land donated by Congressman Charlie W. Thompson, and it was completed in 1899. In June of 1937, the church was destroyed in a fire. A vacant school building and 5 1/2 acres were purchased and served as the church facility from September 1937 to 1963. On September 19, 1963, Union Christian Church dedicated its current church building.Union Christian Church is a member congregation of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Alabama-Northwest Florida Region. The congregation has a participating membership of 174 and an average worship attendance of 92.The Alabama Historical Society has listed Union Christian Church as a state historical landmark.
