Anselm Genders

The Rt Rev Anselm [This was his monk's name. He was christened Roger Marson Genders, and added the name Alban when he joined the Navy. ("Daily Telegraph" Obituary, 2008-06-26.)] Genders, CR was Bishop of Bermuda from 1977 until 1982. Born on August 15 1919 and educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, Birmingham and Brasenose College, Oxford [Who's Who 1992 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0713635142] during which time his studies were interrupted by wartime service with the RNVR.

After graduation he began a long association with the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield [ [http://anglicanwanderings.blogspot.com/2008/06/bishop-anselm-genders-cr.html Anglican Wanderings] ] , becoming a monk in 1952. In 1955 he was sent as a tutor to "Codrington College, Barbados" [ [http://netministries.org/see/charmin.exe/CM00856 College web-site] ] eventually rising to the rank of Principal. A decade later he was sent to what was then Rhodesia, working first in Penhalonga before being appointed Archdeacon of Manicaland [ Crockford's clerical directory 1975-76 Lambeth, Church House, 1975 ISBN 0108153674] .

In 1977 the Archbishop of Canterbury asked him take up the Bermudan Bishopric vacated by the death of Robert Stopford.
