Byrd Gang is a Harlem-based hip hop group. The group was formed in 2006 Fact|date=May 2008 by founding member Jim Jones.

History

The group's first release in 2006 was actually planned as a Jim Jones' collaboration album with Max B, Stack Bundles and Mel Matrix but before the release of their first mixtape "M.O.B.: Members of Byrdgang", they started the group.Their next release was a sequel to the first mixtape, "M.O.B.: Members of Byrdgang 2".Some time after releasing their second mixtape, Jones stated that their first studio album, "M.O.B.: The Album" would be released in July 1, 2008.From 2006-2007, the group consisted of 4 members: Jim Jones, Max B, Stack Bundles, Mel Matrix.In 06.11.07, member Stack Bundles was shot in the head, fatally.Shortly before the loss of one of the founding members, the group brought in a new rapper, NOE in 2007. In the beginning of 2008, Max B left the group due to creative difficulties with Jones. The conflict is in the air to this day.Shortly after announcing the ByrdGang's debut album's release date, Jim Jones expanded the group from 3 members to six members. The new members were Sandman, Chink Santana and Jones' former group's The Diplomats' fellow member Freekey Zekey.The group has its own record label, Byrd Gang Records, started in 2006.

Name

The name Byrd Gang has been used before in the DipSet movement family.For example, former Dipset affiliate group's name was Purple City Byrd Gang.Even Jim Jones himself has mentioned "Dipset Byrd Gang" since The Diplomats' 2nd release in 2004.None of the previously mentioned groups have anything to do with Jones' Byrd Gang group, although, Byrd Gang is still under the Diplomat Records and in the Dipset movement crew.
