Canarsie Yard

The Canarsie Yard (also known as AY Yard from its telegraphy letters) is a rail yard of the BMT Eastern Division of the New York City Subway system. It is the primary layup yard for the NYCS service|L train. It hosts the only car wash for the entire BMT Eastern Division, washing NYCS service|J, NYCS service|L, NYCS service|M and NYCS service|Z trains. In conjunction with the BMT Canarsie Line automation project, Canarsie Yard now has signals installed. This greatly increases the safety of train movements in the yard, as the NYCS service|L train has some of the fastest growing ridership in the system. 208 R143 cars call the NYCS service|L home, as well as some R160A cars. It lies east of the south end of the Canarsie Line
