Autoignition=Indicaxanthin is a type of
betaxanthin , a plant pigment present inbeets ,prickly pear cactus, and a powerfulantioxidant . It is also found in reddragonfruit .Medical uses
It has been shown in a
spectrophotometric study for patients withthalassemia , that indicaxanthin can reduceperferryl-Hb generated in solution from met-Hb andhydrogen peroxide , more effectively than eithertrolox (avitamin E derivative) orvitamin C , possibly interfering with perferryl-Hb, a reactive intermediate in thehydroperoxide -dependent Hb degradation.
