Ballarat Secondary College is a multi-campus college. It has a senior campus, Barkly, located in Barkly Street, Ballarat, close to Bakery Hill. This campus has students in Year 11 and 12, and offers a wide range of subjects in VCE, VET and VCAL. The campus was opened in 1996 after a $5,000,000 renovation to several pre-existing buildings including the original Ballarat East Library, and the former Ballarat Girls High School. The grounds of the campus include the original Ballarat East Botanical Gardens.
The Wendouree campus is in the original Wendouree High Technical School built in
1978 , at the corner of Forest Street and Giot Drive, Wendouree. This large campus has students from Years 7-10.The East campus is on the site of the original Ballarat East High School at the corner of Victoria Street and Fussell Streets,
Ballarat East .In 2006 the Department of Education paid a significant amount of money to a former student for child abuse at the school in 1967. It is expected the more cases will follow. The abuse was discussed on radio 774 in August 2006 on the Lindy Burns show. The then Minister for Education, Lynn Kosky refused to comment on the case. The original buildings are being demolished (2008) and new buildings are being completed with the first stage ready for use in July 2008. This small campus also takes students from Years 7-10.A fourth campus is called Link Up, which is based in the
Ballarat Learning Exchange in Camp Street, Ballarat. This is an alternative school, based on individual learning plans, designed for students who have dropped out of normal schooling.References
