Damien arrived in Carrigstown in 1998 as Suzanne Doyle's girlfriend. The relationship ended when she left him for Floyd Phelan. They later reignited their relationship but ended it again. They remained good friends after.
In 2001, his mother Tess arrived in Carrigstown with her other two kids, Laura and Mark. Damien was upset when Tess reunited with his father, Marty. Damien remembered his dad being violent against his mother when he was small so was against the relationship. Marty managed to buy Laura and Mark's trust by buying them expensive presents.
His parents' relationship ended in tragedy when Marty strangled Tess to death in the living room. He then took Mark and went on the run. After a few days, he committed suicide by jumping in the River Liffey. Damien, Laura and mark were rocked by their two parents dying in the space of a few days. Damien was left to raise his siblings.
Damien met a woman named Berni and started a relationship with her. Laura hated her though and when she moved in, Laura made her life hell. Damien couldn't cope anymore. Laura and Mark went off to Galway to live with their aunt.
In 2006, Mark returned to Carrigstown but Laura didn't. Mark had a hard time fitting into his new school. Mark started to get boxing lessons and soon started a fight club with Sean Cassidy. Damien was furious when he found out. Damien had to continuously go to the school because of something Mark did. He started to become close to his teacher and they started a relationship. They soon got engaged but Suzanne found out that she was having an affair.
Mark soon found out and told Damien. Damian threw her out. In 2007, he started his relationship again with Suzanne. They got engaged and got married in January 2008. At the reception, Suzanne's mother, Rita had a stroke. Damian comforted his wife through the rough time and even invited Suzanne's father, Bela to stay with them.
