- Snouder's Drug Store
No one is sure how early the first building was built on this site. Snouder's Drug Store located since 1884 is the oldest continuously occupied business in
Oyster Bay, New York . Established byAbel Miller Conklin . Conklin had been a druggist in New York City but moved to the countryside of Oyster Bay in 1880 because his doctor felt this would improve his health. His first drug store was elsewhere on South St though the exact location is unknown. In 1884 he relocated here and carried on his business with the help of his son-in-law
Andrew Snouder . In 1887 Andrew installed the first telephone in Oyster Bay, which for several years remained the only phone in town. YoungArthur Snouder took messages up toTheodore Roosevelt atSagamore Hill . [Oyster Bay Main Street Association - Snouder's Drug Store]References
