Simplified Chinese : 李桦;March 6 ,1907 –May 5 ,1994 ), a Chinesewoodcut artist andcommunist known for his participating inleft-wing activities, was born inPanyu ,Guangdong . He was admitted into Guangzhou Public Fine Art School (广州市立美术学校) in 1924, and went toJapan to studyfine art s at Kawabata gagakou (川端美术学校) in 1930.Li returned to
Guangzhou in 1932, after theMukden Incident was broke out, served as a teacher in the Guangzhou Public Fine Art School. And he also began to learn the woodcut art at that time. He was influenced byLu Xun , and produced many woodcut works to protest against the invasion of Japanese army and the decaying government that was led byChiang Kai-shek . After 1950, he became a professor ofCentral Academy of Fine Arts , and sustained his artistic creations. Li died inBeijing at Peking Union Medical Hospital in 1994.External links
