Korea has two types of medicine systems - western and traditional medicine. Even though there is national or private western medical school, there are no national traditional medical schools, only private school. However, this situation didn't contribute to develop traditional Korean medicine (TKM). More than half of student from private TKM school want to open their own hospital and reluctant to research of TKM. Therefore, the Korean government decided to establish a national school in order to research TCM in a scientific way and in 2006, Pusan National University was designated to make this school. From 2008, 50 students have started to study in this graduate school of oriental medicine.
Compared with common private traditional medicine undergraduate schools (2+4 year), this is a special graduate school (4+4).
