Trond Torleivsson Benkestok (c. 1495-February 2, 1558) was a Norwegian nobleman (
knight ) of theBenkestok -family, and commander atBergenhus Fortress .He was born around 1495 in
Bergen , and died on Ferbruary 2, 1558 in Vanse.Trond Torleivsson Benkestok actively supported Johan Kruckow, who wanted Frederik I on the throne of
Denmark -Norway .Benkestok was probably a supporter of
Roman Catholicism until the last Catholic archbishopOlav Engelbrektsson fled Norway in 1537.In 1555 he took charge of the Bergenhus Fortress, and during 1555-56 was commander-in-chief during the absence of
Christopher Huitfeldt .Claus Bille described him as the "most respected and wise nobleman North of the mountains".ources
