Trond Torleivsson Benkestok

Trond Torleivsson Benkestok

Trond Torleivsson Benkestok (c. 1495-February 2, 1558) was a Norwegian nobleman (knight) of the Benkestok-family, and commander at Bergenhus Fortress.

He was born around 1495 in Bergen, and died on Ferbruary 2, 1558 in Vanse.

Trond Torleivsson Benkestok actively supported Johan Kruckow, who wanted Frederik I on the throne of Denmark-Norway.

Benkestok was probably a supporter of Roman Catholicism until the last Catholic archbishop Olav Engelbrektsson fled Norway in 1537.

In 1555 he took charge of the Bergenhus Fortress, and during 1555-56 was commander-in-chief during the absence of Christopher Huitfeldt.

Claus Bille described him as the "most respected and wise nobleman North of the mountains".
