This article is about the Austrian physician. For the German admiral, see Otto Kähler.
Otto Kahler (January 8, 1849 - January 24, 1893) was an Austrian physician. Born and trained in Prague, he is best known for describing multiple myeloma, a hematological malignancy, which is called "Kahler's disease" in his honor in several countries. Additionally, he also made various important discoveries in the field of neurology, such as describing syringomyelia and the arrangement of the spinothalamic tract in the spinal cord (the Kahler-Pick law, with Arnold Pick). He moved to Vienna in 1889 but developed tongue cancer and died there in 1893.
