Rapid Response Services

Rapid Response Services

Rapid Response Services is a transportation/logistics service that delivers aid across Sudan to supply the humanitarian projects, working in Darfur. The service started in June 2008, based on the need to transport goods quickly out to Darfur. Due to red tape, heavy rains and increased insecurity the supply route to Darfur, which in normal circumstances should only take a few days, was taking up to three weeks. A rapid response service was established to deal with emergency deliveries and transportation of delicate medical supplies, to make sure that the humanitarian projects were not jeopardized. RRS uses a range of vehicles including: Steya onroad/offroad trucks, Ilyushin76 and Antonov32 aircraft, it also employees the expertise of several local logistics companies to provide detailed knowledge of local conditions. Rapid Response services has been transporting cargo and aid from the international ports at Port Sudan or Khartoum, to Nyala or El Fasher in less than 7 days, dealing with customs clearance and all governmental procedures. It is a new initiative, aiming to be implemented in other complex emergencies.
