His racing career began at the age of twelve at North Texas Kartway in Denton. Johnson moved up through the karting ranks to a national level winning five United States karting national championships in the IKF and KART (Karters of America Racing Triad). Johnson drove for a number of teams including Wayne Brown's Brown Competition Racing as well as the Arrow North America factory team. Johnson was vice-champion in the 2005 United States Rotax Max national championship [1] which promoted him to a position with the United States Kart racing team where he competed at the Rotax Max Grand Finals in the Canary Islands.
This karting success propelled Johnson into formula car racing where he made his car debut in the Sports Car Club of American Formula Continental division. Johnson contested four races in this category winning three. After attaining a national competition license Johnson went abroad and competed in the first round of the New Zealand Toyota Racing Series. In his only appearance to date Johnson scored a top ten earning 36 championship points.
Off-track Johnson attended and graduated Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas as well as completing a marketing degree from the University of North Texas College of Business. He is a highly skilled sports person in lacrosse where he made appearances in three high school state championships, soccer where he played for the University of North Texas mens club which finished 6th in the national championship, and ice-hockey where he was the captain of the Jesuit varsity team his senior year.
Along with racing accomplishments Johnson is a published journalist in the Sports Car Club of American publication Sports Car.
Johnson is the founder and director of MJDrive International a motorsport firm specializing in competition and marketing projects. He lives in Bedford, United Kingdom and is an instructor for the Palmer Sport racing school.
