watershed = The River Little Stour is one of the sources of theRiver Stour, Kent , running for 14.3 km, after initially starting nearLyminge as theNailbourne for 15.9 km [ [http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/commondata/acrobat/stour_cfmp_2_1018400.pdf The Environment Agency] ] . It joins with theRiver Great Stour (itself from the confluence of theRiver East Stour and theRiver Upper Great Stour ) atPlucks Gutter nearWest Stourmouth to become the River Stour.In its early reaches (from Lyminge to
Littlebourne ) it a winter bourne known as theNailbourne .On 28 September 2007 Environment Secretary, Phil Woolas, announced that the Little Stour would be one of 24 additional sensitive areas in England that have been identified as at risk from excessive nutrients from sewage treatment works. This means that Southern Water will be obliged under the Urban Waste Water Treatment Regulations to take action by 2014 to reduce phosphorus and nitrates in the discharges from their sewage treatment works which discharge into the Little Stour.
