Adriano Irala was a Paraguayan intellectual, professor and journalist .

Childhood and youth

Irala was born on July 21, 1894 in the town of San Jose de los Arroyos.

In 1911, finished high school with gold medal, and joined the Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Sociales where he earned his doctorate thesis with “El Ejecutivo Colegiado”.

He married to Zoraida Burgos, and had two sons - Adriano and Geronimo Irala Burgos, both intellectuals and artists.

From a very early age he distinguished himself by his talent as a journalist and professor. A man of refined taste and solid and professional training policy, one of the purest and balanced minds of his generation, says the writer Carlos Zubizarreta.

Professional life

He taught Logic and Psychology at the Colegio Nacional de la Capital y en la Escuela Normal de Profesores. He was a university professor and holder of the Chair of International Law. He was also Director of the newspaper "La Nacion" and in 1928 founded the opposition party Liga Nacional Independiente with other politicians.

He joined the Paraguayan delegation that traveled to Peru for the celebrations of the centennial of the battle of Ayacucho, where he delivered a speech expressing his gratitude for the Peruvian solidarity in the war of 65, truly a masterpiece of oratory.

Because of their political beliefs adverse to the government,he endured the bitterness of exile and could return to the motherland with the assumption to power of the ruler Dr. Eusebio Ayala.

Service in the Chaco War and last years

He immediately volunteered to serve the nation in arms. He was incorporated into the army with the rank of Major to act as auditor of war in command of operations. During the contest he caught a serious illness. He was evacuated to the capital, and died as a result of the same, August 18, 1933, at age forty.

Adriano Irala belonged to the romantic liberal generation, which according to the vision of Republican politician and writer Natalicio Gonzalez, Paraguay broke into the post-war "as an intellectual tragedy."

This author discovered that the contrast that arbitrarily comes from the individualistic liberalism of Irala with the love of their homeland: "Born in a mountain village, he encouraged the commitment to his people and solidarity with their land." Natalicio finds an ambivalent position that attaches "a confrontation of their culture of romantic roots with racial trends of his creating impulse of classic essence, which transcends poetry, and invades the political phenomenon." Insists that the romantic literatures pretends to take refuge in the individual, are malnourished, lost contact with the dark human flows that feed the big poems, cuts the creative activity of poetry that reflects a role.

Works

Some of the beautiful verses of young Adriano Irala, steeped in melancholy and romance:

"Crusade for the good life as a pilgrim With a soul Aromas of sadness and love A distant star shows me around on the road And my nights poured into his pale radiance.

I spent my dreams as high chimera Through life, through the pain Boost my craft a wind of chimera In a charming island will be the conqueror.

And live "my life, go" my way” And when fatigued, to its shore I lay, To sleep the dream that has nothing to disturb.

Flower in my lips a tender smile And feel the kiss on the forehead of a breeze From the summit I could not reach distant.

Justo Pastor Benitez asserts that the history of the Paraguayan culture could not deny a post to those who spread doctrine, preached ideals, defended the cause of freedom, helped to raise their civilization, the laborers of intelligence. To revive the collective sense, restore the values of the past needed the poet, artist, emotional announcer.
