M. Anthony Burns is an American businessman who serves on the boards of directors of J.P. Morgan Chase, Pfizer Inc., The Black & Decker Corporation and J.C. Penney. He is also the former President and CEO of Ryder Systems. Additionally, Burns is a member of the University of Miami board of trustees and an appointee to The Coca-Cola Company's task force on human resource issues. He received a B.S. in 1963 from Brigham Young University and an MBA two years later from the University of California. Burns joined the Ryder's finance organization in 1974, and before the end of that decade was elected Ryder's president and COO. He was later elected CEO in January 1983 and chairman of the board of directors in May 1985. He retired from his position with Ryder Systems in 2002.
