- Luni River
The Luni is a river of western
Rajasthan state,India . It originates in thePushkar valley of theAravalli Range , nearAjmer and end in the Rann of Kutch (Gujarat).The Luni flows southwest through the
Marwar region to empty into theRann of Kutch . It and its tributaries drain the western slopes of the Aravalli Range, and its watershed encompasses 37,363 km², which includes all or part ofAjmer , Barmer,Jalor ,Jodhpur ,Nagaur , Pali, andSirohi districts andMithavirana Vav Radhanpur region ofBanaskantha North Gujarat . Its major tributaries are theSukri , Mithri, Bandi, Khari, Jawai, Guhiya and Sagi from the left, and theJojari River from the right.It is also known as Lavanavari river. It means "Salt River" in
Sanskrit .Rising in the western
Aravalli Range in the state ofRajasthan , where it is known as theSagarmati , it flows south-west and enters a patch of desert before dissipating into theRann of Kutch , traversing a total of 530 km. In spite of the highsalinity , it is a major river in the region and serves as a primary source of irrigation.It may well have been the southern portion of the
