The Czech - Slovak Battlegroup is one of 18 European Union battle groups. It consists of 1500 soldiers with manpower contributed from the participating countries.

The governments of the two countries have stated that their contribution is not intended for deployment in Africa or the Arctic, despite the battlegroup concept being intended party for Africa. [Gowan, Richard (March-April 2008) "A Predictable Crisis", "E!Sharp magazine". p44] Should an emergency in these areas arise, it would no doubt fall to the other battlegroup on call to respond despite the Czech-Slovak BG being on standby for such an event.
