Tyumen State Oil and Gas University is the largest university in the Tyumen region of Russia. It has 7 schools, including construction, social sciences, engineering, and the Institute of Management and Business.

There are 4 petroleum universities in Russia. Tyumen State Oil and Gas University is the only university of its kind in Siberia and Far East. It was established in 1956. Today about 40 thousand students study here in 70 departments. During the 50 years of its existence the university has awarded diplomas to almost 75 thousand graduates. Tyumen Oil and Gas University is organized into six educational institutes: the Technological Institute, the Institute of Geology and Geoinformatics, the Institute of Transport, the Institute of Oil and Gas, the Institute of Management and Business, and the Institute of Humanities. There are also technical schools, colleges and lycees. Through the years Tyumen State Oil and Gas University has expanded beyond the city of Tyumen to offer educational services in other cities and regions. At present, it has 18 branches both in the north and south of the Tyumen region, as well as in Kazakhstan.

Tyumen State Oil and Gas University is a first-rate research center encapsulating 18 research institutes and centers. The scholars participate in the development of dozens of projects. Among the most significant customers and consumers of the scientific work of the university are the Russian Ministry of Education, and enterprises operated by «Transneft», «Gazprom», «LUKOIL», «Rosneft», and many others.
