Empathic anger

Empathic anger

Empathic anger is an emotion, a form of empathic distress [Abstract: Empathy and justice motivation, Martin L. Hoffman [http://www.springerlink.com/content/w126637624m00103/] ] . Empathic anger is felt in a situation where someone (else) is being hurt by someone or something (e.g. "unjust world"). It is possible to see this form of anger as a pro-social emotion. It isn't hard to conceive how this kind of emotion could be useful for social animals. It prevents and punishes hurting others of the same group, thus keeping anti-social behavior at bay through conditioning. It is possible to assert that this form of anger is moral.

Empathic anger has direct effects on both helping and punishing desires. Empathic anger can be divided to trait and state empathic angers.
