History
Timeline
- 1903 - Doremus was founded by Clarence W. Barron, owner of the Wall Street Journal, at 44 Broad Street in New York City. It has nine accounts, all from the financial companies that want to advertise in the Journal. Harry Doremus, the agency’s namesake, is an assistant who joins the agency from the Wall Street Journal’s advertising department.
- 1914 – Doremus launches first major campaign for U.S. Government Liberty Bonds. (Post WWI, Doremus’ special classified section in Wall Street Journal helps returning enlisted men find executive jobs.)
- 1928 – Clarence Barron dies. William H. Long, a nine-year employee, takes over as President. Long lands Dillon, Read & Co. and JP Morgan as clients.
- 1930 – Doremus’ reputation for global connectivity lands campaign for “The Curtiss Wright Corporation’s Wright Cyclone Engine” which powers Charles Lindbergh’s famous 30,000 mile flight across and down the Atlantic.
