With her distinctive husky voice, she acquired the nickname of "Queen of the Blues". Due to her frequent appearances on television programs (including 18 appearances on the annual show Kōhaku Uta Gassen), she is fondly remembered by many older Japanese. After her death, a memorial to Aoe was established in the Isezakicho shopping area.[citation needed]
