- Keele Labour Students
Keele Labour Students (KLS) aims to promote the Labour Party in the local area, specifically at
Keele University ,England . The organisation is a society ofKeele University Students Union meaning that it follows not only its own rules and guidelines but also any of restraints or rules laid out by the Union, particularly in terms off funding. The society is also affiliated toLabour Students and therefore via proxy to the Labour PartyWhile the Keele Labour Students are a relatively young society at Keele University they have become the largest Labour society in the West Midlands with 77 members in total. The membership figure is not indicative of the number of active members, as many are recruited at Freshers' Fayre to boost influence in and support from
Labour Students . The members are also thought to include a number ofConservative Future undercover agents. The group is governed by two bodies: The Executive Committee of elected officers and the General Assembly (open to all members). However these two terms are largely formal, as most meetings carried out are technically General Assembly meetings.
The Executive Committee has the following positions:Chairman SecretaryTreasurerNon-Portfolio Officer (Formerly
Constituency Liaison Officer)Press and Publicity OfficerCampaigns and Membership OfficerThe first three (Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer) are irremovable as they are required to be there by the
Keele University Students Union constitution. The Position of "Non-Portfolio Officer" is also the de facto Vice-Chair as they are responsible for fulfilling the Chair's duties in the event of the position becoming vacant. The position also used to be the position of "Constituency Liaison Officer" mainly responsible for interacting with local constituency Labour Parties (CLPs). However the position was largely inactive as CLPs generally talked to the Chair or Secretary and was changed to become more flexible and useful.
