Apollo Stadium

Apollo Stadium was an indoor arena located on Kingston Avenue in Adelaide, South Australia.

Apollo Stadium was opened in 1969. It was given the name because of the Apollo moon landing, which occurred on July 16, 1969. It had a capacity of approximately 3,000 seats.

Apollo Stadium hosted many major rock bands and musicians, including The Beatles, U2, Joe Cocker, Queen, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Dylan, The Police, Ike and Tina Turner, B.B. King, Cat Stevens, AC/DC, Yes, Deep Purple, Supertramp, Cat Stevens, Adam and the Ants, Midnight Oil and Cold Chisel.

Apollo Stadium also served as Adelaide's major basketball arena until 1991. From 1982 it was the home court of the Adelaide 36ers team of the National Basketball League.

In 1992 the venue was superseded by the newly-opened Clipsal Powerhouse, and was demolished. The site was subsequently redeveloped for housing.
