Burgundy wine in centralFrance . It is the best-known part of theMâconnais region, and produces whitewine from theChardonnay grape. This white Burgundy should not be confused with the
Sauvignon Blanc s from Pouilly-Fumé andPouilly-sur-Loire in theLoire Valley .tyle
Pouilly-Fuissé is a dry white
wine made from Chardonnay. It is pale and refreshing, often quite delicate. It is not as expensive as the big wines of theCôte de Beaune to the north.Geography
West of
Mâcon the land rises up to form Mont de Pouilly and other limestone hills, covered in the alkaline clay that best suits Chardonnay. The villages of Vergisson, Solutré-Pouilly, Fuissé and Chaintré shelter at their feet.cite book | last = Johnson | first = Hugh | authorlink = Hugh Johnson | title = The World Atlas of Wine, 3rd Ed. | publisher = Mitchell Beazley | date = 1985 | location = | pages = | id = ISBN 0-85533-562-9 ]Appellation
