Usama ibn Zayd

Usama bin Zayd (also spelled Osama)( _ar. أسامة بن زيد) was the son of Zayd bin Harithah, Prophet Muhammad's freed slave, adopted son and one of the first Muslims.

Father

His father died in the Battle of Mu'tah, 627.

Usama's dispatchmen

Although Usama was the son of a freed slave, he was appointed to the position of commander over Umar, Abu Bakr and Uthman, three senior Sahabah, a few days before Muhammad's demise.

Among the orders he received was "go to where your father was killed" [http://forums.almaghrib.org/showthread.php?t=972] .

He was only eighteen years of age at this time. When protests arose regarding such a high position for someone of his young age, Muhammad silenced the protesters.

Usama, the general of the expedition to Syria, was in Jorf, still waiting for the companions. Some of them sent word to him that Muhammad was dying, and that he should return to Medina. He returned, and moments later, Muhammed died.

Ali washed the body of Muhammad as Usama poured water.

Legacy
