- Elbhangfest
The Elbhangfest is a street festival held in
Dresden ,Germany on the last weekend of June each year since 1990, focussing on the unique culture and built landscape of the hillsides on the banks of theElbe river.Description
The area between a bridge in
Loschwitz called 'Blaues Wunder' (Blue Wonder ) andPillnitz castle is the site for a street festival where a variety of performers come together to entertain the crowds of locals and visitors.History
Dresden, a university city, has for a long time had a culture of locally organized street parties and other cultural artistic events. Saddened at the state of disrepair of the two culturally important churches in Loschwitz (built by George Bähr, the builder of the
Dresdner Frauenkirche ), and Pillnitz (built byZwinger master builderMatthäus Daniel Pöppelmann ), a group of culturally active citizens started a street festival to raise awareness, and also to raise funds for their restoration.External links
