Koyah

Koyah

:"This article is about the historical Haida chief. For the mountain in Japan, see Mount Kōya.Koyah, also Coya, Coyour, Kower, Kouyer (phonetically /xo’ya/ , meaning "raven" (b.?-d. c.1795), was the chief of Ninstints or Skungwai, the main village of the Kunghit-Haida during the era of the marine fur trade in the Queen Charlotte Islands of the North Coast of British Columbia, Canada. Koyah was involved in more conflicts with ship captains than any other chief of his period and so figures prominently in histories of the fur trade and coastal exploration.
