Jan Kopp (b.
July 13 ,1971 ) inPforzheim , Germany, is a Germancomposer forcontemporary music . He also works as an essayist and teacher. The focus of his artificial works lies in contemporary composing. He was a pupil ofWolfgang Rihm ,Helmut Lachenmann undMarco Stroppa . In addition to composing and reflecting "Neue Musik" within articles and broadcast-manuskripts he is interested in making ordinary people familiar with artwork, which is usually receted only by specialists. For that reason Kopp is engaged in several school projects.Life
At the age of 12 years he did his first attempts towards composition. From 1987 to 1991 he studied composition with Wolfgang Rihm at the "
Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe ". From 1992 to 2000 he studied German philology and musicology at theUniversity of Heidelberg , finishing this studies in 2000 as a Master of Arts. In 1998 he continued his studies in composition with Helmut Lachenmann and Marco Stroppa at the Stuttgart Musikhochschule and took his diploma as a composer in 2002. Since then he has been working as a freelance composer and writer. In his work both as a composer and as a writer, Kopp focuses on the relationships between music and speech. According to this, many of his works include the human voice. In his instrumental music he explores the relationships between performing music and the compositional structures and decisions made by the composer. Kopp worked with ensembles likeNeue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart ,Ensemble Modern ,Ensemble Phorminx ,Schola Heidelberg ,Ensemble Mosaik ,Suono Mobile and soloists likePetra Hoffmann ,Daniel Gloger andHans-Jörg Mammel . His works have been performed and broadcasted in Germany,Switzerland ,Argentina ,Uruguay andSouth Korea .External links
