Tibicena

Tibicena

A tibicena was a mythological creature of the ancient Guanches, the native people of Gran Canaria. The Tibicenas were imagined to be demons who had the bodies of great wild dogs with red eyes, covered by long and black wool. They lived in deep caves inside the mountains.

Some real caves preserve today the ancient name of the tibicenas' lair as "Cueva del Tibicena". Supposedly tibicenas attacked livestock and persons, especially at night.
