footnotes =Boll Weevil is a chain of
casual dining restaurant s inSan Diego, California , specializing inhamburgers . It was founded in1966 by husband and wife Fred and Lorraine Halleman, and was known as the "Home of the ½ Lb. Steerburger."The restaurants are decorated in a style reminiscent of the
American Old West , and also featurepool tables andvideo games . Cold beer is also on the menu.A distinctive feature of the chain is the
condiment tray. Patrons are given a tray of condiments, includingketchup , mustard, relish ,Tabasco sauces, pickles , slicedred onions , salt and pepper. This allows the patron to customize their burger to their liking. Other condiments, such aslettuce ,tomato es, andcheese come with the burger itself, depending on the type ordered. Desserts vary among the various restaurants, but always feature ice cream.Next door to this original Boll Weevil once existed the Cotton Patch steak restaurant. The Hallemans launched their Boll Weevil line of hamburger joints from this once very popular and more upscale eatery, with "Boll Weevil" being a logical name for a smaller type of restaurant spawned from a "Cotton Patch." Both were on Midway Dr, near Barnett Ave, right off Pacific Coast Hiway.
