Carolyne Mas (born
20 October 1955 , New York,United States ) is an Americansinger-songwriter ,guitarist ,pianist , producer, who broke out of theGreenwich Village music scene boom of the late 1970s, along with other artists such asSteve Forbert ,The Roches , andWillie Nile . Although she remains relatively unknown in theUnited States , except for a loyalcult of fans, she managed to gain popularity inEurope andCanada , mostly due to the use oftelevision as a promotional tool in these markets.Her energetic live shows, especially during the late 1970s and early 1980s whilst signed to
Mercury Records , were well received. Mas toured the U.S., Canada, and Europe extensively with a band of musicians including Crispin Cioe of the The Uptown Horns, who later went on to play with acts such asThe Rolling Stones , andkeyboardist Charlie Giordano , who later played alongsideBruce Springsteen .Mas currently lives in
Florida with her husband, son, and mother. Her Aunt Ana, whom she had cared for since 2002, died in April 2008. "Our Animal Haus, Inc.", Mas' non-profit sanctuary for unwanted, abused, and special needs animals and birds, continues to grow in size and she last performed inItaly , New York, andNew Jersey in 2006. Most recently, she reunited with Mark Johnson to record a cover of asong , written by the Italian singer Graziano Romani, called "The Most Crucial Enemy". The song was recorded at Mas' home. It is due to be released inItaly later in 2008 as part of a tribute CD for Romani's fan club in Italy.
