Kinlough ( _ga. Cionn Locha, lit. "head of the lake") is a village in County Leitrim, Ireland at the head of Lough Melvin. It is situated about 2 miles from Bundoran, County Donegal, about 13 miles from Manorhamilton.

Amenities

Lough Melvin is famous for it's fishing. The lake runs from Kinlough to Garrison which is in County Fermanagh. The first salmon of the year has often been caught on the river Drowes which runs from the lake.

Education

The Four Masters School, is the village primary school [http://homepage.eircom.net/~fmasters/index.html] ; it's named after The Annals of the Four Masters, historical writings produced by famous Irish historians of the early 17th century. The school has 145 pupils and 6 teachers.

Tectonic Activity

As of June 2007 Kinlough has not been subjected to any tectonic activity but a large fissure has begun to appear in the Latin Quarter of the town which has led many locals, and indeed seismologists, to belive that within the next decade Kinlough will slowly disappear due to the increasing size of the fissure. The fissure is known locally as The Big Fissure or Fissy.

Tourist attractions

The view from the village looks up to Benbulben mountain, Sligo and is a short distance from Drumcliffe the final resting place of W. B. Yeats.
