Charles Stanhope, Viscount Petersham

Charles Stanhope, Viscount Petersham

Charles Henry Leicester Stanhope, Viscount Petersham (born July 20 1945) is the son of William Stanhope, 11th Earl of Harrington and Eileen Grey. As heir apparent to the Harrington earldom, he bears the courtesy title of Viscount Petersham (peerage created 1742). Since the 1967 extinction of the patrilineally related line of the Earls Stanhope, he has been entitled by custom to use of the more senior title "Viscount Stanhope of Mahon" (peerage created in 1717) which devolved upon his father, but he has not chosen to exchange the titles. However, once he succeeds to his father's earldom, his own son (and future heirs apparent to the earldom) will have the option of using either viscountship.

He married, firstly, Virginia Freeman-Jackson, on 14 September 1966 and they were divorced in 1983. They had two children:
*William Henry Leicester Stanhope (b. 14 October 1967) who is married to the former model Candida Bond, and has issue, one son and one daughter.
*Hon. Serena Alleyne Stanhope (born 1970), married David Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley, the Queen's nephew, on 8 October 1993. They have two children:
**Hon. Charles Patrick Inigo Armstrong-Jones (b. 1 July 1999)
**Hon. Margarita Elizabeth Rose Alleyne Armstrong-Jones (b. 14 May 2002)He married, secondly, Anita Fugelsang, formerly Countess of Suffolk & Berkshire in 1984.
